Rev. Louis J. Trivison Honored
Fr. Louis J. Trivison
The launch of FutureChurch’s 20th anniversary year was a fitting time to posthumously honor co-founder Fr. Louis J. Trivison with the very first award named in his honor. The Board of Trustees directed that the Fr. Louis J. Trivison award is to be given to a Roman Catholic who exhibits outstanding leadership in advancing the FutureChurch mission or vision in one or more of the areas of teaching, administration, research, publication, advocacy and pastoral service.
FutureChurch Executive Director, Sr. Chris Schenk, introduced the award ceremony saying: “Louie was FutureChurch’s first and best guide through the labyrinthine paths of diocesan and church politics. … [He] had the prophet’s gift of knowing just how firmly and when to push and what battles were best avoided. Louie thoroughly respected the authority structures of the Church. But he also dreamed of the day when bishops would listen to the wisdom of the laity with the same respect that the laity listen to them.”
Sr. Mary Lou Trivison, Fr. Lou’s sister, accepted the award on behalf of the Trivison family. She quoted from Fr. Lou’s favorite scripture text: “I thank my God whenever I think of you, and every time I pray of all of you, I pray with joy…” (Phil 1:3-9) She noted how proud and encouraged Fr. Lou was at FutureChurch’s national and international growth, and concluded by quoting Fr. Louie’s “dear friend, the prophet, George Eppley, who had the last word, ‘Louie was angel, friend, scholar, visionary, pastor leader and saint.’”
